Valentino Rossi on the other Yamaha got a good start as he overtook Crutchlow and Marquez in the opening laps but young Marquez was quick enough to get ahead of Rossi to slot into third.
Pedrosa trailed behind Lorenzo during the initial stages of the race which seemed to be hard and unpredictable on the tires and grip but on lap 6 made the move on his compatriot to grab the lead.
Lorenzo had to face young compatriot Marquez for the rest of the race as Pedrosa was comfortable the lead while Rossi was in a lonely fourth.
Marquez didnt make the race easy for Lorenzo as he made all efforts to get ahead of the world champion but Lorenzo braved defied all attacks. Marquez even went wide and lost few seconds off Lorenzo but gained back within few laps.

The historic last corner in Jerez which saw many interesting overtaking moves in the past didnt fail to entertain this time too. Marquez took the inside line as Lorenzo took a wide line into the corner and both riders collided in the process leaving Lorenzo offtrack and Marquez grabbing a valuable 2nd which looked like a repeat of Rossi´s move on Gibernau at the same corner in 2005. Lorenzo managed to cross 3rd ahead of team mate Valentino Rossi in 4th.
